Caring For Your Oral Health Through Pregnancy

Many of our patients are surprised to learn that pregnancy not only changes your body, but it can have some lasting effects on your dental health as well. We wanted to share how your dental health can be affected during pregnancy and some helpful tips to keep your teeth in top shape. Even if you aren’t currently expecting, this is useful information to share with someone who may be pregnant.
Dental Health Before Pregnancy
We know not every woman plans a pregnancy and is sometimes taken by surprise. However, if you are planning to add to your family in the near future, we recommend visiting our office for a hygiene examination and cleaning. We can inspect the state of your oral health and determine if any treatments are immediately necessary. Certain treatments are not recommended during pregnancy, and we would prefer to ensure that your oral health is in excellent condition.
Dental Health During Pregnancy
There are many aspects of pregnancy that can affect your oral health. If you experience morning sickness and vomit, be sure to brush your teeth immediately afterward. The risk of gum disease greatly increases during pregnancy, so it is important to continue to care for your teeth properly at home. There is no need to skip your cleaning appointments during your pregnancy.
Dental Health After Pregnancy
Dealing with a newborn can be overwhelming, and it can be difficult for new moms to find time for themselves. Be sure to continue to make your oral health a priority during this time. If you experienced any oral health issues during your pregnancy, treatment can now be scheduled.
If you are pregnant or thinking of adding to your family in the near future, now is the perfect time to schedule an appointment for a hygiene examination. We look forward to seeing you in our office, which is located in Houston, TX, soon.
